Why Annual Boiler Servicing Matters

Your boiler is one of the hardest working appliances in your home. From the cold snaps in October through to the last chill of April, it quietly keeps your home warm and your hot water flowing. Yet it is easy to overlook until something goes wrong.

An annual service changes that. Here's why it should be at the top of your home maintenance list.

Safety First

A poorly maintained boiler can develop faults that affect safe operation. Carbon monoxide is colourless, odourless and poisonous, so a working alarm is an important additional precaution. During a service, a Gas Safe registered engineer follows the manufacturer’s instructions and checks the appliance, flue, ventilation and combustion as appropriate.

Support Efficient Operation

Over time, dirt, wear and system problems can affect how a boiler operates. A service cannot guarantee lower energy bills, but it can confirm that the appliance is operating correctly and identify developing concerns.

Catch Problems Early

A worn seal, a restricted component or an unusual operating reading may be easier to address when found early. If left unresolved, a developing fault can lead to a larger repair or an unexpected loss of heating.

Protect Your Warranty

Many boiler warranties require servicing at the stated interval and a completed service record. Check the terms for your boiler because the requirements vary by manufacturer and warranty.

What's Included in a Prime Heating Service?

The checks depend on the boiler, its condition and the manufacturer’s instructions. A standard service may include:

  • Visual inspection of the boiler and controls.
  • Flue, ventilation and combustion checks.
  • Gas pressure, flow and operating readings where required.
  • Inspection and cleaning of service items where required.
  • Safety checks appropriate to the appliance and installation.
  • Operational testing, a service record and clear findings.

We explain the findings in plain English. If further work is recommended, you will be told what is needed and what it will cost before additional work proceeds.
